A Word from Clete Hall
The Man responsible for it all!

It had been twentyseven years since I had left Bravo Battery and the 3rd Missile Battalion, 71st Artillery, but I had never stopped thinking about the unit or the fellows that I served with. The memories of the two years that I had spent at Bravo, and the people that I had met there, were still very vivid in my mind and I had often wondered what ever happened to each of them.

In 1988 my brother was making a trip to visit with his Daughter and Son-In-Law who was stationed in Germany. I asked him to go by Grossachsenheim if he got the chance and take a picture of the old Missile site if it was still there.

When he returned he brought back a video tape of the entire site. It was closed by this time, but all of the buildings that I remembered were still there and also some new ones that had been added through the years. All of the buildings were in very bad shape and were scheduled to be demolished in the very near future.

It was rather sad to see the site in that condition because I remembered it as being new on the first day that we occupied it. But, time has a way of demonstrating that nothing stays the same.

I wanted to share this information that I had received with the only two fellows that I had stayed in contact with over the years. They were Marion Duncan (Big Dunk) and Billy Flick. When Marion and I were talking, the subject was brought up that it would really be great if we could find a few of the fellows from Bravo and get together someplace to rekindle old friendships and remember the past.

After contacting a U.S.Senator and talking with the Defense Department about how to make contact with these fellows after so many years the search was on.In August of 1990 Bravo had it's first reunion at Blue Springs, MO with twenty Veterans in attendance. It had now been thirty years since some of us had seen each other, but it was like those thirty years just melted away in a instant and the old friendships that had been tucked away for all of those years came rushing back.

That was the beginning, and since that time we have had six reunions in various parts of this Great country and have continued to search for those that were at any time stationed at Bravo. We have also expanded the search to include anyone that served in the 3/71st.

Today we have in excess of two hundred Veterans on our active roll. In addition over fifty are on what we refer to as the Honor Roll. They are our deceased brothers from the 3/71st.

That is how it all began and as you can see, we are not finished yet. If you are a Veteran from the 3/71st we would really like to hear from you.
